I was contacted by Vicky (not her real name) as she was looking for someone who could help her with space management. She was overwhelmed with how much clutter that had accumulated in her craft room. She did not know where to begin and while the clutter bothered her, she felt stuck, helpless and hopeless.

Her goal was to turn the craft room into 2 separate spaces: a craft room and a place for her 2 toddler granddaughters to be able to play and also to spend the night on occasion.

I told her that I lived for challenges and was eager to meet and see the space she wanted help with.

I discussed that the process will take time as every item in the room will need to be sorted by like items. She will have to make a decision about each item and whether she will keep it or not keep it.

Due to the lack space to sort in the room, I discussed with Vicky that it would be best for me to sort items into large containers and then take the containers into another room for her to sort. She agreed that it would be best for her as well since the sight of the room overwhelmed her so. This sorting process lasted for 2 weeks. It was hard for Vicky having to decide what to keep and not to keep for the first few days. I was very proud of her at the end of the fourth day. She let go of so much! Some was trash and much of it was donated to Goodwill.

End of day 4: Going to Goodwill

One of many trips were made

Goodwill Drop Off

By the end of 7 very long days of decision making, Vicky was amazed at how much was cleared out.

While working with Vicky, I learned that the Daisy was one of her favorite flowers. This is a tribute to her hard work.

Over the next week, Vicky sorted through numerous large containers and a few more trips to Goodwill were made. As a reward for her hard work of letting go of many items, she was given a break to work on a couple small crafts as I had some behind the scenes work to do that did not require her assistance. Watching her brought joy to my heart as she looked so happy being able to craft again.

It had been about 7 months of not being able to do any crafting.

Dazzling Light

There is light at the end of the tunnel!

By the end of week 2, excitement was building for Vicky and even I was getting excited for her!

The project will be done next week. I met her granddaughters, they are so precious!

I wanted this room to be the perfect balance for both Vicky and her granddaughters.

Week 3 will be the final touches to the declutter and organization and then begins the redesign!

As week 3 commenced, everything was coming together beautifully. Vicky got to work on a couple more craft projects. One of them being a painting to go in the room for her granddaughters.

On the final day, a shopping trip was in order for the final touches. That shopping trip was also a lesson for Vicky in buying only what she needed to get the project completed. She passed with honors!

I have purposefully left out the photo of the craft closet.

Vicky and her husband were left with "homework".

The room had to be designed with much thought, as we had to think like toddler and child-proof as much as possible.

The craft closet will need to be child-proofed and in order to do that, the bi-fold doors will be converted into french doors. (Thank you, Pintrest!)

Once their project is complete, I will reveal the organized craft closet.
